Body music video

Creative Directing, Production, Color Grading

Body is a fun dance and house inspired electronic song, featuring a sample from Mariah Carey’s Hit song “Touch My Body” It is sensual, yet serious in tone. Created with Nikki Araya and Sofia Pelkey, we wanted the music video to bring a deeper and surreal visual approach to this track and to talk about the topic of female sexuality and commodification in media.

Applied in DaVinci Resolve, color was used as a driving element in our narrative with a two-toned gradient map assigned to each individual character.

monster rig and initial color

Creating a cohesive display of various gradient maps proved challenging. To mock up all of the color ways we created initial rigs and treated images from footage in Photoshop.

storyboard

Beginning - The lyric “touch my body” is interpreted in a sexy, seductive way. A dancer poses seductively. Gloves are pulled up disembodied arms foreshadowing another character to come. Close up is shown of mouth saying “touch my body.”

Middle - When the beat drops it becomes more sinister, less seductive. Gloved hand shadows are shown menacingly over the dancer’s body. The hands snatch her away.

We see disturbing experimentation on multiple girls and unnerving shots including: mysterious goop poured over a head, a bone saw cutting away, flesh being pulled, hair falling out, blood being smeared.

End - Boxes of body parts and colors reveal a Frankenstein creation.

The camera zooms and pans into the right arm (the dancer’s arm) and her hand reaches out and grabs the camera leaving an ominous ending.
